Liquid Lipstick Battle: Match 7 (Quirky Packaging Edition)
Hello! It has been just over five months since the last Liquid Lipstick Battle so I figured it was high time for another. As you can tell from the title the theme for this batch is that they all have funky packaging that is custom/specific to each brand. It’s getting down to the wire for this series, after this I’ve only got two more that I’m prepared to make. It’s been fun but if I’m being completely honest I’m overwhelmed with liquid lipsticks and I actually prefer a bullet or pencil lipstick formula vs a matte liquid lipstick so I don’t really want to keep buying them. Plus, the more I try the harder it gets to keep it interesting with the shades and not buy the same type of shades over and over again (I’ve got one match coming up that’s all nudes). Once I have worked my way through everything I think I’m gonna do a lip swatch post with all the shades I have remaining, I have tossed a few that were old or that I hated, and I also might shuffle the order of my ranking but after that the Liquid Lipstick Battles will be put to rest so I can focus on some more fun and creative stuff. Enough of that, let’s get to today’s contestants!
Fenty Beauty Stunna Lip Paint in Uncensored $24 for 0.13 oz / 4 mL
I’ve actually been siting on reviewing this one for a while, I used it way back in one of last year’s Halloween looks and again in my 4th of July look this year. I bought this shade back when it was the only one available from Fenty if that gives you an idea of how long I’ve had it. I did do a “proper” wear test and take notes so here are my official findings; this formula is very opaque but the applicator is very difficult for me to use and I usually end up using a lip brush because it’s hard for me to get a precise application. The formula is very thin and liquidy and if I try to use the applicator I get it all out of the lines and end up looking like the joker. It’s exceptionally comfortable and not supper matte, more of a demi-matte or satin imo, but the downside to that is that it transfers but I will gladly take the comfort over an all-day wearing liquid lip. I have worn this shade quite a few times and overall highly rate this formula and would definitely recommend it if you haven’t already tried it. The comfort level and pigmentation are insane, the only thing I would change is the applicator, and it’s one of the few that I would actually consider purchasing in a few more shades because I love it that much. I think it would be really cool if they came out with mini sets for the holidays since there’s eight shades now…hint hint Fenty!
Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick in Edition $28 for 0.10 oz / 3 mL
I’m a bit of an Hourglass fan but that price per ounce (or mL)…ouch! Formula wise I’m not real crazy about this one because it’s quite sticky. I had to use a photo with my lips parted because in the ones where my mouth was closed you could see my lips sticking like they were glued together. The more you put on, the stickier it gets and I had to use two coats to get it opaque because this formula goes on a bit streaky so my lips were sticking to each other quite badly. For my wear test I only did one layer and while it was still sticky it wasn’t nearly as bad as the day I photographed it on with the two layers of product. With one layer on I didn’t find it to be drying or crackly feeling on the lips at all, if it weren’t for the stick I think it would feel like a regular matte lipstick. The thicker texture and small applicator make this one much easier to apply and control which is something I really appreciate compared to trouble I have with applying the Fenty product. I like that it’s not drying and easy to apply but ultimately the tackiness and super high price point (for how little product there is) keep me from recommending this one.
Il Makiage Infinity Long-Wear Matte Lip Cream in Diva $22 for 0.18 FL OZ / 5.5 ML
Il Makiage is a brand that hasn’t been on my radar for too long and it’s not one that I hear influencers talking about very much but their packaging is stunning and sucked me in (this thing is so heavy it could be a paper weight). Since they carry liquid lipsticks I figured why not try one for the blog and after looking at the tiny arm swatches on the website I settled on Diva since it stood out to me the most. I knew it would be a bold pink but holy smokes this shades is actually neon irl. When it comes to the actual formula I’m quite disappointed in this one. I don’t know if it’s just this shade since it is so bright but it’s not very opaque and goes on very streaky, I can still see some of my natural lip pigment coming through. The finish is ultra matte and feels dry, tight and almost chalky on the lips. The upside to that is that it doesn’t transfer and is longer lasting because of that but I find it very uncomfortable and in need of a balm or gloss. Then there’s the scent, this has a very “grandma perfume” type of scent which you can actually taste since it’s on your mouth and I find it pretty gross to be quite frank (reminds me of the Sephora Collection’s scent). You do get a pretty good amount of product so I imagine it will last a while but I wouldn’t recommend this brand for their liquid lipsticks (I’ve also tried a blush and mascara from them and much prefer those).
Too Faced Melted Matte Liquified Matte Lipstick in Queen B $21 for 0.4 oz / 11.8 mL
My Too Faced Melted Matte is actually a mini that I got either in a set of lipsticks from Sephora or was a free gift with purchase and contains 0.10 fl oz or 3 mL so the same amount of product as Hourglass’ full size. Not gonna lie I wasn’t super excited to try this one since I’m not a huge fan of Too Faced but a YouTuber, RachhLoves, raved about this liquid lip formula on her channel and specifically this color so I figured I’d give it a try and boy was I shocked by the results. I actually really ended up liking this one and did not expect to because it goes on super matte so I thought it would feel really tight and dry but it surprisingly doesn’t. The formula is opaque and didn’t transfer on the back of my hand when I did the kiss test. I didn’t do the longest wear test with this one because I didn’t put it on until later in the day but I ate a burger and fries and it only wore off in the very center and reapplied without going chunky. It also lasted through ice cream and hardly any wore off so I think it would last pretty well throughout the day depending on what you’re eating and drinking. It does have a scent and it’s not a pleasant one but I think the pros outweigh the cons and I would recommend this one if you’re looking for a good bang for your buck liquid lipstick.
I’m really starting to struggle ranking these because it’s been so long since I’ve worn some and because with this volume of liquid lipsticks it’s become more ‘would I want to wear it again’ versus ‘do I want to throw it out’ so I think when I do that final recap it’ll just be split into two categories but for now here’s where the ranking stands with today’s contestants added in:
Fenty Beauty Stunna Lip Paint Longwear Fluid Lip Color
Pérsona Season One Matte Liquid Lipstick
Burberry Liquid Lip Velvet
Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Liquified Lipstick
Pixi Beauty Mattelast Liquid Lip
Too Faced Melted Matte Liquified Long Wear Matte Lipstick

Storybook Cosmetics Liquid Lipstick
Ofra Cosmetics Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick
Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Lips

Sephora Collection Cream Lip Stain Liquid Lipstick
Il Makiage Infinity Long-Wear Matte Lip Cream
TheBalm Meet Matt(e) Hughes
Melt Cosmetics Liquid Set Lipstick
Smashbox Always On Matte Liquid Lipstick
Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick
I knocked Bite’s Amuse Bouche Liquified Lipstick formula down a couple pegs because it’s being discontinued and I’d actually rather just go for one of their bullet Amuse Bouche Lipsticks instead. Fenty was the clear winner taking over the top spot but Too Faced really surprised me and came through with a much higher ranking than I anticipated. Even though I’m not keen on the formula I’d probably wear the Il Makiage again just because the color is so punchy but I’d have to put either a balm underneath or a gloss over top. I have mixed feelings as to how much I’ll wear the Hourglass one, I like the color so I might just be putting a gloss over that one to deal with the very sticky texture. I cannot wait to wrap this series up and do a liquid lipstick declutter because I am a bit overwhelmed with options right now and surely some of them have gone off by now. I think that is all I’ve got to say for today but we’re in the home stretch with this series and I cannot wait to wrap it up. I’ve been trying to ramp up the posting on Instagram so if you’re not following me there I would love to have you and I will see you next time!
